Editor’s note: I’ve struggled all afternoon about whether or not to run this article and poll. The very serious allegations, for which Von Miller has been charged, are nothing to minimize and my intent is to avoid doing that in this space. However, it feels impossible to ignore Miller’s situation and refrain from considering the affect the news is likely having on Bills Mafia... and even One Bills Drive. It’s unfair to claim any of us knows what his future holds with the team until more information and facts are presented.
Having said that, it’s impossible to deny that fans aren’t reeling due to these concerning allegations that Von Miller assaulted a woman who, per a report, is six weeks pregnant and someone with whom Miller has been in a romantic relationship for seven years.
Make no mistake: What matters most is the safety of everyone involved, while allowing due process to play out and refraining from jumping to conclusions. I simply ask that you continue using restraint in your engagements with one another here, and also respectfully digest each other’s opinions on these matters before issuing a heated response.
The Buffalo Bills are on their bye this week, which comes much later than usual due to the team declining its off week immediately after the early season game in London.
What would a Bills season be without its fair share of negativity, adversity, and drama? It’s been a season full of each, and this week is no different. Thankfully, toward the good — the offense appears to be back on track under the guidance of interim offensive coordinator Joe Brady, who put together a fantastic attack that nearly allowed the Bills to escape South Philly victorious.
Despite Buffalo’s production on offense the past two weeks and following the Week 12 loss on the road to the Philadelphia Eagles, head coach Sean McDermott has found a hot seat the court of public opinion warmed up for him. Right or wrong, it’s his director’s chair for the time being.
Then, a very troubling story broke on Wednesday, November 30. Earlier today, it was reported that an arrest warrant had been issued for edge rusher Von Miller following allegations of domestic violence that reportedly took place on Wednesday in Texas. As of Wednesday evening, Miller reportedly turned himself in to authorities at the Glenn Heights City Jail — appearing after allegations of domestic violence involving assault of a pregnant woman. As of writing, Miller had already left the jail after posting a $5,000 bond.
While Miller hasn’t made much of a visibly direct impact on the gridiron this season, his commitment to rehabbing an ACL injury in an effort to quickly return certainly provided a boost to the locker room.
Reluctantly, I ask of you: Within the throes of a tumultuous week, how are you feeling about the direction of the Buffalo Bills?
