‘Thursday Night Football’ Pick and Open Thread: Seahawks at Cowboys

Plus, JSpenceTheKing gives you his best Same Game Parlay with DraftKings Sportsbook for tonight’s matchup!

NFL: Preseason-Dallas Cowboys at Seattle Seahawks Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

Tonight’s Thursday Night Football game between the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX feels like it has the potential to be a less-than-ideal primetime matchup between one of the best teams in the league and one still trying to find its identity. With the game set to be broadcast on Amazon Prime Video football fans around the world will be tuning in to watch these two teams battle it out on the gridiron.

One of the key aspects of tonight’s game is the betting odds. Dallas is favored with a -8.5 spread, which means that they are expected to win the game by at least 8.5 points. The Moneyline is -425 for Dallas and +330 for Seattle, indicating the potential payout for a bet on each team. The over/under is set at 47.5, which means that the total combined score of both teams is expected to be either over or under that number. These odds give fans an insight into how the game is expected to play out and add an extra layer of excitement to the match-up.

The Cowboys come into this game with an impressive 8-3 record and one of the most talented rosters in the NFL. Led by quarterback Dak Prescott, Dallas has the highest scoring offense in the league, averaging 31.5 points per contest. Their offense also ranks fifth in the league in yards per game, with an average of 377.6. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has been a standout player for the Cowboys, surpassing 1,000 yards for the season and scoring a touchdown in each of his past three games. Alongside him, wide receiver Brandin Cooks and running back Tony Pollard have made Dallas almost an unstoppable force on offense. On the defensive side of the ball, the Cowboys have a top three unit in terms of yards allowed, giving up an average of 276.3 per game. Their stout defense has only allowed 185 points, which is the third best in the NFL.

On the other side, the Seattle Seahawks have struggled to find their groove this season, currently standing at 6-5. Quarterback Geno Smith hasn’t been able to replicate the success of last season, and with an injury to running back Kenneth Walker, the Seahawks might find it challenging to keep up with the Cowboys’ high-powered offense. Despite being one of the most expensive defenses in the league and investing heavily in first- and second-round draft picks, Seattle’s defense has failed to live up to expectations this season. According to DVOA metrics, the defense is currently ranked 18th against the run and 23rd against the pass. Their underwhelming performance to this point is a major disappointment for the team and its fans, especially considering the resources and talent invested in the defensive unit. As the Seahawks look to turn their season around, they will need to see significant improvement from their defense in order to compete at a higher level.

Without trying to over complicate something that is so simple, I am going with the Cowboys to win this game. While DraftKings Sportsbook has the spread at 8.5 in favor of the Cowboys, I believe that they will win comfortably, likely by a touchdown, but I don’t think this game is going to be a blowout like their last three matchups. I’m going with a final score of 27-20.

I anticipate Dallas jumping out to a lead early and riding Tony Pollard to run the clock out, but allowing the Seahawks to try and climb back into the game. But the Cowboys will be too much to hold them off.

Now for the fun stuff. Let’s talk parlays! In the world of sports betting, a parlay refers to combining multiple bets into a single wager. To win a parlay bet, all the individual wagers within the parlay must be successful. This type of bet offers higher potential payouts compared to individual bets if all the selected outcomes are correct. However, if even one of the bets loses, the entire parlay bet is lost. It’s a high-risk, high-reward betting strategy that can add excitement to football games by amplifying the potential winnings.

So let’s check out my suggestion for a good parlay tonight:

+278: Zach Charbonnet Anytime TD Score, Dak Prescott +275 Passing Yards, Brandin Cooks Over 41.5 Receiving Yards

Zach Charbonnet Anytime TD Score (+120)

Kenneth Walker III has been listed as doubtful for this game and will likely be a game-time decision. To me, that spells trouble for fantasy owners and bettors alike if you have your heart set on Walker. Charbonnet has been an impressive backup when his number has been called on. He doesn’t have a touchdown on the year but he has 14 and 15 carries over the last two games and those opportunities are sure to translate into a score. The Seahawks have struggles on offense and will be looking to keep up with the highest scoring offense in football, expect Zach to get plenty of opportunity.

Dak Prescott +275 Passing Yards (-150)

Dak Prescott hasn’t hit 275 yards every game this year, but when you tell me the highest scoring offense is going up against the 23rd-ranked passing defense then I am excited to put some money on this game. That sounds like big money to me and while this particular prop bet isn’t favored, it’s one that I feel comfortable adding to parlays to multiply winnings and bring home some extra money.

Brandin Cooks Over 41.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

For the last three games, Brandin Cooks is averaging 5 receptions, for 95 yards for 18 yards per reception. You read that right, Brandin Cooks has shown the ability to be a consistent weapon for Dak Prescott. The Seahawks are going to try and do everything in their power to stop Lamb from having a huge day, that will leave it open for Cooks to have another great game. Look for Cooks to cook.

This Parlay is +278. When a parlay is indicated as +278, it means that the potential payout for a winning bet is $278 for every $100 wagered. The plus sign indicates that it is the underdog or less likely outcome in the bet, while the number indicates the profit that would be made on a $100 bet. Therefore, if you were to place a $100 bet on a parlay with +278 odds and it wins, you would receive a total payout of $378 ($278 profit + $100 initial bet).

Betting can be an exciting and entertaining activity, but it is crucial to approach it with responsibility and caution. It is important to set limits for yourself before engaging in any form of gambling. Only bet an amount of money that you can comfortably afford to lose without impacting your well-being or financial stability. Bet responsibly and prioritize your overall well-being.
