Buffalo Rumblings Weekend Chat: Holiday traditions

The Bills are back “In The Hunt” so we go into the wayback machine.

Matt Warren is Associate Director of NFL coverage for SB Nation and previously covered the Bills for Buffalo Rumblings for more than a decade.

Last week, we talked Holiday Music in our weekend chat. Here’s an extension.

This year, instead of leading the division, the Bills are once again back “In The Hunt”. Buffalo needs some help to make the playoffs (though if they run the table they are in so it is a little bit better). Once again we’re hovering a round .500.

It brought me back to a nostalgic time when we were rooting for the plucky underdogs like Ryan Fitzpatrick and Stevie Johnson. We’re back home for the holidays with this image made by Skarekrow in 2017, when the Bills mercifully did make the playoffs:

So what’s your favorite holiday-time tradition? It could be hitting up the Polar Express in Medina, ice skating at Harborcenter, something at church, cutting a tree, lighting candles, the airing of grievances, or a whole lot of other options.

For us, we really love watching certain movies on repeat. White Christmas, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Elf, The Polar Express, Home Alone, The Santa Clause, and Just Friends have already been watched and re-watched this year. When I do wrapping after the kids go to bed, I pop on Die Hard which is 100% a Christmas movie and I have a detailed argument. We save A Christmas Story for later. My wife likes the Michael Keaton Jack Frost, too, but as a dad, the dead dad thing isn’t my cup of tea.

What are your favorite holiday traditions (or movies)? Hit us in the comments.

We’re continuing to dust off an old favorite this week as we get further into the 2023 NFL season. We used to run open threads around TV shows like LOST and just general Friday night open threads. Let’s quote the OG Brian Galliford:

Welcome to the weekend, Buffalo Bills fans. We’ve got a couple more days before the Bills take the field, and after a long week, it’s time to blow off a little steam. Use this thread to talk about... well, whatever it is you’d like to talk about. Maybe you’d like to share a cool story from your week. I know I do!
