‘Thursday Night Football’ Pick and Open Thread: Saints at Rams

JSpenceTheKing gives you his best-bet SGP with DraftKings Sportsbook for tonight’s matchup!

NFL: Los Angeles Rams at New Orleans Saints Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Saints are in California to face off against the Los Angeles Rams for Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime TV. Tonight’s matchup has playoff implications for both teams —each with a record of 7-7 heading into Week 16. The Rams opened at -4 with DraftKings Sportsbook with an over/under total of 44.5, and the Moneyline opened at +164 for the Saints and -198 for the Rams.

The Rams are coming off a strong 28-20 win at home over the Washington Commanders, with quarterback Matthew Stafford leading the charge with 258 passing yards and two touchdowns. With the return of wide receiver Cooper Kupp from injury, the Rams’ offense has been particularly potent, and they’ve also been able to unlock the run game with Kyren Williams, who has rushed for over 100 yards each of the past two weeks — needing just 47 yards to reach 1,000 rushing yards for the season. However, the Saints’ defense (while ranked 25th against the run) will look to slow down the Rams’ ground game and force them to rely more heavily on Stafford’s passing.

On the other hand, New Orleans is coming off a dominant 24-6 win against the New York Giants, with quarterback Derek Carr throwing three touchdowns and no interceptions, and running back Alvin Kamara making an impact as a runner and receiver. The Saints’ offense will try to exploit the Rams’ defense, which ranks 21st against the pass and 14th against the run. With Carr leading the offense and Kamara as a dual threat, the Saints could potentially have their way on the offensive side of the ball.

In terms of defense, the Saints rank sixth in the league in opponent passing yards per game, allowing just 185.4 yards to opposing quarterbacks, while the Rams will attempt to take advantage of the Saints’ 25th ranking against the run. This sets up an intriguing matchup between the two teams’ strengths and weaknesses on both sides of the ball.

As for a prediction, the Rams have been a different team in the second half of the season and are now also much healthier. Led by the always impactful Aaron Donald at defensive tackle, the Rams have the potential to edge out the Saints tonight.

Score prediction: 31-27, Rams over Saints — with LA covering the -4 spread.

Now for the fun stuff. Let’s talk parlays! In the world of sports betting, a parlay refers to combining multiple bets into a single wager. To win a parlay bet, all the individual wagers within the parlay must be successful. This type of bet offers higher potential payouts compared to individual bets if all the selected outcomes are correct. However, if even one of the bets loses, the entire parlay bet is lost. It’s a high-risk, high-reward betting strategy that can add excitement to football games by amplifying the potential winnings.

So let’s check out my suggestion for a good parlay tonight:

Cooper Kupp 50+ receiving yards

Kupp is healthy and once again proving he belongs in the conversation as one of the game’s top wideouts. Had he been healthy all season the Rams would probably be battling the 49ers for the division and also have their sights set on the conference. But that doesn’t change the fact that Kupp is playing well now and playing a key role toward helping the Rams push for a Wild Card spot. A big game from Kupp tonight would go a long way in those efforts, 50 yards won’t be too difficult for Kupp to get if he plays anything like he has in recent weeks.

Alvin Kamara Anytime TD

Kamara has been and should remain the focal point to the Saints’ offense. He’s a proven star as a dual-threat running back. Last week against the Giants Kamara had five receptions to add to his 16 carries. That’s really a typical game for him and tonight won’t be any different. Look for Kamara to find pay dirt somehow.

LA Ram to win by 1-6 points

I predicted a final score of 31-27 and that falls right in line with this final leg of my parlay. Neither team is explosive enough to run away with the game, but I think the Rams are better and have more pieces available on the offensive side of the ball to pull out a victory at home. The Saints have a solid defense and can make things difficult, but I fully expect the Rams to gut this win out and make some noise in the NFC playoff picture.

This Parlay is +525. When a parlay is indicated as +525, it means that the potential payout for a winning bet is $525 for every $100 wagered. The plus sign indicates that it is the underdog or less likely outcome in the bet, while the number indicates the profit that would be made on a $100 bet. Therefore, if you were to place a $100 bet on a parlay with +525 odds and it wins, you would receive a total payout of $625 ($525 profit + $100 initial bet).

Betting can be an exciting and entertaining activity, but it is crucial to approach it with responsibility and caution. It is important to set limits for yourself before engaging in any form of gambling. Only bet an amount of money that you can comfortably afford to lose without impacting your well-being or financial stability. Bet responsibly and prioritize your overall well-being.
