The Buffalo Bills will look to make it three straight wins when they head out to California to take on the Los Angeles Chargers. The Bills are fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive while the Chargers will look to play spoilers. Catch up on the Chargers below.

2023 Season Summary

The 2023 season started with playoff hopes for the Chargers, but those hopes never truly materialized. The Chargers are 5-9 and fourth in the AFC West and 13th in the AFC. The last two weeks have been a nightmare for the Chargers. Two weeks ago, their star QB Justin Herbert broke a finger on his throwing hand and was ruled out for the rest of the season. Last week, they gave up 63 points to the Las Vegas Raiders and head coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco were fired the next day.

Interim Head Coach: Giff Smith

After Staley was relived of his duties, the Chargers named Smith their interim head coach. Smith has been with the Chargers since 2016. He spent the first six seasons with the Chargers as their defensive line coach. In 2022, he switched to outside linebackers where he stayed until his promotion to interim head coach. Smith spent three seasons with the Bills as a defensive line coach under Chan Gailey. The Bills game will be Smith’s first game as an NFL head coach.

Offensive Coordinator: Kellen Moore

Moore is in first season as the Chargers’ offensive coordinator. He was hired by the Chargers after he was let go by the Dallas Cowboys. Prior to this move to LA, Moore had only coached for the Cowboys. He became their quarterbacks coach immediately after retiring from playing in the NFL. The following year he was promoted to offensive coordinator where he spent four seasons before his firing. His Chargers offense is ranked 15th in yards per game and 17th in points per game.

Defensive Coordinator: Derrick Ansley

Ansley remains as the defensive coordinator in LA after Staley’s firing. He was promoted to the DC position this season after two prior seasons as the defensive backs coach. Before joining the Chargers he was a successful DC for the University of Tennessee. His defense is ranked 29th in yards per game against and 28th in points per game.
