The Buffalo Bills are the Los Angeles Chargers are set to square off in a battle of two original AFL franchises headed in different directions in 2023. For the Bills, a late-season surge has them at 8-6, knocking squarely on the door of an AFC Playoff berth. For the Chargers, a late-season swoon has them at 5-9 and without their franchise quarterback (Justin Herbert), who is out for the year with a broken finger.

The Chargers are also without their top wideout, Keenan Allen, who will miss the game due to a heel injury. They fired their head coach, Brandon Staley, and their general manager, Tom Telesco, after last week’s embarrassing 63-21 blowout loss at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders. Buffalo enters this game the winners of two straight, having beaten the Kansas City Chiefs on the road and the Dallas Cowboys at home over the last two weeks.

The Bills absolutely have to maintain the killer instinct they’ve shown of late, as they have burned any margin for error they may have had early in the season. A loss here doesn’t fully tank their playoff hopes, but it certainly makes things much more difficult. Taking care of business and coming back to Orchard Park, NY with a win is paramount to the team’s playoff chances.
