The Buffalo Bills are riding a three-game win streak, having defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys and, most recently, the Los Angeles Chargers. Before the team’s latest round of winning football, Buffalo found itself in a chaotic Philly affair, arguably grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory. Three wins against one loss. Against many of the NFL’s best teams this season, and both sides of last season’s Super Bowl matchup. Furthermore, Buffalo played but one home game in that stretch, which, yes, did include the team’s bye week between the Philadelphia Eagles game and the now nearly annual trek to Kansas City.
Each game revealed something different about the team’s character, identity, and chances to make noise ahead of and into the playoffs. Whether it was the ability to keep pace in a shootout, shut down a perennial Super Bowl favorite on the game’s last drive, blow out the hottest offense in the NFL, or find a way to win despite the greatest of historic odds — the Bills have shown an ability to rise to the challenge, and often well above it.
Where entering the team’s bye at 6-6 felt like the playoffs were off the table, the Bills’ current record of 9-6 has them in position for Wild Card play as the sixth seed in the AFC. At least for the time being.
The Buffalo Bills cannot afford another loss. That means overcoming what’s certain to be a fired-up New England Patriots team playing their tails off for what’s believed to be head coach Bill Belichick’s penultimate game with the team he arguably helped put on the map.
Closing out the regular season against a pair of AFC East foes is no easy task, no matter what the records or outside perceptions say about each team.
As for perceptions, many who cover the NFL believe that the Bills are playing their best football, by and large — and Buffalo seems to be gaining steam as the one team no division winner or otherwise would choose to face in the playoffs. Can the Bills continue their winning ways? They’ll have to if they hope to play beyond the regular season.
So, are you confident in the team’s direction at this point?
