The Buffalo Bills are hosting the New England Patriots this New Year’s Eve. Buffalo will be looking to keep their playoff hopes alive and exact some revenge for their Week 7 loss in Foxborough, MA. During the teams’ first meeting this season, quarterback Mac Jones was the guiding force that propelled the Patriots to victory at game’s end. This time, backup quarterback Bailey Zappe is now New England’s QB1.

Catch up on the Pats’ season, coaches, and starters below.

2023 Season Summary

The Pats are 4-11 on the season and are sitting in last place in the AFC East and the AFC as a whole. They’re much closer to the number-one overall pick than a playoff berth. However, they do have some momentum as they were victorious in their last outing; a road game on Christmas Eve against the Denver Broncos.

Head Coach: Bill Belichick

Belichick is in his 29th year as an NFL head coach. The first five seasons of his head coaching career came with the Cleveland Browns. This is his 24th season in New England, and possibly his last if the rumors are to be believed. His career regular-season record is 302-163 (0.649).

Offensive Coordinator: Bill O’Brien

O’Brien is back in Foxborough for his second stint as the Patriots’ offensive coordinator. He was previously their OC in 2011 and then left to be the Penn State head coach and subsequently the Houston Texans’ head coach. After getting fired by the Texans, he went to Nick Saban’s Coaching Rehabilitation Program at Alabama before returning to the Pats prior to this season. His offense is currently ranked 28th in yards per game and 32nd in points per game.

Unofficial Defensive Coordinators: Steve Belichick & Jerod Mayo

The Patriots once again don’t have an officially named defensive coordinator. Linebackers coaches Steve Belichick and Jerod Mayo reportedly split the duties normally assigned to the defensive coordinator. Bill Belichick is also likely heavily involved in game planning. The Pats’ defense is currently ranked eighth in yards against per game and 16th in points per game against.
