The Buffalo Bills activated defensive tackle DaQuan Jones from injured reserve ahead of today’s crucial showdown with the New England Patriots. In doing so, they released veteran offensive lineman Germain Ifedi, who had become a staple of this particular piece: Ifedi was a healthy scratch for every game this season.
Now that Jones is back, along with cornerback Kaiir Elam, who had also been on IR for a while, the Bills’ inactive player list is no longer a formality. Buffalo is gaining some health at the right time of the season, but that means that the coaching staff has some difficult decisions to make regarding which players earn a jersey on game day.
Who’s in and who’s out today against New England? Here are the inactive players for both teams.
T Alec Anderson
Another week, another healthy scratch for the versatile young lineman. Ryan Bates, David Edwards, and Ryan Van Demark remain the three reserves up front.
DE Von Miller
Didn’t see this coming. Miller is a healthy scratch with A.J. Epenesa ready to roll after suffering a rib injury against the Kansas City Chiefs. Kingsley Jonathan is active, as well, with Greg Rousseau, Leonard Floyd, and Shaq Lawson rounding out the rotation.
DT Linval Joseph
Didn’t see this coming, either. Joseph has been really good since signing with the team, but with DaQuan Jones back and active, the Bills will give Joseph a rest today. Let’s see if this becomes a trend. Poona Ford is also active.
CB Kaiir Elam
The second-year man is a healthy scratch in his return from injured reserve thanks to a foot injury. Dane Jackson is the third boundary corner behind Rasul Douglas and Christian Benford.
S Damar Hamlin
With Micah Hyde ready to roll after sitting for two weeks with a stinger, Hamlin is back to a healthy scratch—well, a semi-healthy scratch, as Hamlin suffered a shoulder injury of his own during lats week’s win.
