Buffalo Bills cornerback Rasul Douglas has been named AFC Defensive Player of the Week following his dominating performance against the New England Patriots in Week 17. Douglas was an early and often headache for Patriots quarterback Bailey Zappe, who sent a pair of footballs Douglas’ way. In total, Douglas claimed two interceptions, returning one 40 yards for a very big touchdown — a score that proved to be the game-deciding points.

Douglas noted that he likely should have had a third pick of Zappe, which instead went to defensive tackle Ed Oliver who made a diving catch off of Douglas’ tip drill.

In addition to his highlight-reel INTs, Douglas also defended three passes, and made two tackles.

Since joining the Bills at the NFL trade deadline on October 31, Rasul Douglas has proven to be one of the team’s key players this season. In eight regular-season games with Buffalo, Douglas now has four interceptions.

Rasul Douglas is the first Buffalo Bills cornerback since Tre’Davious white (2019) to be named AFC Defensive Player of the Week.

If the Bills are to make the playoffs again this season, Douglas will undoubtedly play a key role. The seven-year NFL veteran’s game was tailor-made for the zone-heavy scheme that head coach Sean McDermott runs. There may be no bigger addition to the team in 2023 than general manager Brandon Beane’s successful trade to bring Rasul Douglas to One Bills Drive.
