Day 2 of Buffalo Bills training camp has come and gone with the first (hopefully minor) injury. Here are today's story lines in our Recap Recap, where we recap the excellent coverage from the multitude of Bills beat reporters to find common themes and new viewpoints:
- First camp injury: Ron Brooks briefly went to the side during Friday's practice, he returned. The same cannot be said for rookie offensive lineman John Miller, who was sidelined with what Rex Ryan called a "bruised ankle." He was seen limping to the trainers' tent during practice, but was walking fine after practice. Cyril Richardson saw first-team reps in his place.
- Poor QB play continues: Hopefully we won't have to type this every day, right?
- Filling in at CB: Ronald Darby is seeing plenty of time in place of Leodis McKelvin, who looks like he'll be out a while.
- RT shuffle: Seantrel Henderson took first-team reps at right tackle today in place of Cyrus Kouandjio, with Ryan saying some interesting things about how Henderson responded to being demoted during minicamp.
- Praise for Woods: Robert Woods is being praised from all over with his consistent play with the first-team offense.
Joe Buscaglia, WKBW
Buscaglia continues his daily MVP and LVP awards with Woods and Matt Cassel, respectively, and has strong words for Cassel in particular. Scags also discusses the defense installing 3-4 looks today, and mentions the elevated play of little-known cornerback Mario Butler in more detail that the rest of the reporters.
Vic Carucci, The Buffalo News and Mike Rodak, ESPN
Both news organizations are justifiably focusing on the quarterback competition. Carucci seems down on EJ Manuel and Cassel, talking mostly about Tyrod Taylor (who took second-team reps today). Rodak agreed. Both reporters mentioned that in the second session the quarterbacks improved, noting they were shorter throws during that portion of practice. John Murphy also liked Taylor's day.
Ty Dunne, The Buffalo News
Dunne makes mention of a play that blew up on Twitter when it happened: a juke by LeSean McCoy that left Corey Graham standing and staring. He discusses the move, but also say it's symptomatic of McCoy not losing a step, a good sign considering the contract extension he just signed. Dunne also gives a shoutout to Woods.
Matthew Fairburn, Syracuse.com
Did Ryan demote Henderson on purpose to see how he would respond? It's the focus of Fairburn's recap, and a coy quote from Ryan. He is also the only beat reporter to mention the struggles of Chris Hogan, who made a push to the roster during training camp last year, but who is having trouble holding onto the football so far this season.
