Buddy Nix Buffalo Bills approval poll: May 2013

Back in mid-March, right after the first week of 2013 NFL free agency was in the books, we ran an approval poll for Buffalo Bills GM Buddy Nix. Positive sentiment for the Bills' chief personnel man was at an all-time low nearly two months ago, with only 21 percent of readers approving of Nix's work.

A lot has changed since then; let's recap exactly what has gone down, and we'll run the poll again below to see how sentiment has changed since March 18.

• Florida State quarterback E.J. Manuel, USC wide receiver Robert Woods and Oregon linebacker Kiko Alonso headlined Nix's 2013 NFL Draft class; readers that voted graded the draft class in the B- to B range, and approval of a trade down in Round 1 was nearly universal.
• Big names among the team's 16 undrafted free agent signings include Washington State quarterback Jeff Tuel, Tennessee Tech wide receiver Da'Rick Rogers, Howard linebacker Keith Pough and USC cornerback Nickell Robey.
• Jairus Byrd still has not signed his franchise tag. The veteran safety is skipping voluntary off-season workouts, but re-signing the two-time Pro Bowl player is a priority for the team.
• Veteran personnel acquisitions include quarterback Kevin Kolb (link), defensive lineman Alan Branch (link) and little-known linebacker Marcus Dowtin (link), a pet project of defensive coordinator Mike Pettine. The team also re-signed running back Tashard Choice.
• Traded 2011 third-round pick linebacker Kelvin Sheppard to Indianapolis in exchange for a 2010 first-round pick, pass rusher Jerry Hughes.
• Elsewhere in free agency: pass rusher Kyle Moore signed with Chicago, and the team had tight end Fred Davis (link) and linebacker Karlos Dansby (link) in for free agent visits. Dansby remains on the open market.
• Has plainly stated post-draft that he will continue to serve in the GM capacity for the foreseeable future, relegating any succession plans for Assistant GM Doug Whaley to the back burner.
