Buffalo Bills work out Tom Burgess, Australian League rugby player

English rugby player Tom Burgess is visiting the United States, and working out for NFL teams - including the Buffalo Bills - while he's here.

Earlier this year, the San Francisco 49ers made worldwide headlines with the signing of Australian Rugby League star Jarryd Hayne. While Hayne was eventually dropped from the 49ers' roster, it appears that he has paved the way for others to follow in his footsteps.

According to a report from Press Association, another rugby star, Tom Burgess, worked out for the Buffalo Bills earlier Friday. The report also states that Burgess had a workout with the New York Giants on Thursday.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Thursday that the workout with the Giants was as a tight end, so the easy assumption is that Burgess was trying out for the Bills in the same capacity. WGR 550's Sal Capaccio, however, points out that points out that he could see play at defensive end, as well. Considering that Burgess is listed at 6'5" and 265 pounds, he fits the size requirements for both positions.

It will be interesting to see if the Burgess tryout leads to any future conversations with the Bills, or any other team, looking to take a chance on the rugby star.
