Marcell Dareus drag race trial set for May 19

Marcell Dareus is scheduled to stand (non-jury) trial on May 19 for charges stemming from a May 2014 vehicle incident in Hamburg.

You may recall that late in May of 2014, Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus was arrested after crashing his car in a Hamburg drag race. Those were distressing times for Bills fans.

Dareus returned to Hamburg Town Court on Tuesday as that case proceeds. He will stand non-jury trial on May 19 (with pre-trial motions beginning a week earlier, on May 12) to face the large number of charges stemming from that incident that remain leveled against him, which include reckless endangerment, reckless driving, participation in an illegal speed contest, and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Once his various spring mishaps were temporarily put in the rearview mirror, Dareus had himself quite the run in 2014. He set a new career high with 10 sacks, was voted to his second consecutive Pro Bowl, and was named a first team All-Pro by the Associated Press.
