Stephon Gilmore, Jerry Hughes notable absences from Bills voluntary workouts

Before you get irrationally angry about it, however, both starting defenders have great reasons for missing the start of the Bills' voluntary offseason workout program.

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills' voluntary offseason workout program began early on Monday morning, and a healthy percentage of the team's current 71-man roster was in attendance.

There were two notable exceptions, however, and both are key members of what is expected to be one of the NFL's best defenses in 2015: pass rusher Jerry Hughes and cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

Hughes, freshly signed to a five-year, $45 million contract extension last month, is in his native Texas this week, where he's preparing for his wedding this coming weekend. That per WGR 550's Sal Capaccio.

As for Gilmore, he's taking some additional time away from Orchard Park this offseason because he recently became a father.
