Marquise Goodwin to long jump in Pan American Games on July 21

This will be the second track and field event that Goodwin will have participated in between the close of Bills minicamp and the start of Bills training camp.

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Marquise Goodwin will be participating in one more long-jumping event before the Bills open 2015 training camp on July 31.

Ty Dunne of The Buffalo News reports that Goodwin has been named to Team USA for the Pan American Games, which run from July 10-26 in Toronto. The long jump event will occur on July 21, roughly a week and a half before Goodwin needs to return to Western New York for the start of training camp.

Goodwin set a (wind-aided) personal best 8.37-meter mark in the long jump back on June 25 during the USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships. That event marked the first time he'd long jumped in live competition since the Olympics in 2012, and the mark was good enough for a fourth-place finish - enough to keep his Olympic hopes alive for 2016 should he wish to pursue them, but not enough to qualify him for the IAAF Worlds in China next month.

All of Goodwin's track and field exploits this offseason have occurred during the break between mandatory minicamp and the start of training camp, when coaches encourage players to remove themselves from football for a bit to re-energize themselves prior to the marathon that is a NFL season. Goodwin has certainly done that, though he has also stayed close to athletic competition. He'll be competing for a 53-man roster spot when training camp opens in a little over three weeks.
