Lions 17, Bills 10: Buffalo drops exhibition finale, finishes preseason 2-2

Rejoice, Bills fans, for the preseason is officially over. Here's a quick recap of the Bills' exhibition finale in Detroit.

Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills lost their preseason finale on the road to the Detroit Lions, 17-10, and this was your highlight of the evening:

Ron Brooks recorded the Bills' lone touchdown on the evening, intercepting a deflected first-quarter pass and returning it for a touchdown. It was all downhill from there, as the Lions outscored the Bills 17-3 from that point. These were the notes that I took on the team - which played exclusively backups and bubble players tonight - throughout the course of the game.

  • Andre Davis offside on opening kickoff
  • Davis makes great catch on tipped pass
  • Muffed snap on 4th & 2 - Kraig Urbik or Matt Simms?
  • A.J. Tarpley blows up a pitch on 3rd & short
  • Mario Butler illegally covers long snapper, giving DET first down
  • NZI on Stefan Charles; - 3rd & 10 becomes 3rd & 5
  • Great hit by Merrill Noel to cause Brooks pick-six
  • Ugly DPI on Brooks on next series
  • Great open-field tackle by Bacarri Rambo
  • Bad deep ball tracking by Davis with space (ball under thrown)
  • Simms takes a huge hit, converts 3rd & 8 to Marcus Thigpen
  • Iffy holding call on Nick O'Leary
  • Second muffed snap (lost) - Urbik snapped without the ball
  • Alex Carrington, Charles, Andre Fluellen having their way with DET backup OL
  • Butler burned badly on 65-yard slant TD
  • Darryl Johnson beaten badly to give up a sack
  • Nice catch in traffic by Dezmin Lewis to convert third down
  • Quentin Groves dinged after making massive KR hit
  • Tarpley blows up a screen
  • Solid PBU in space by Tarpley
  • William Campbell (RT) holding on extended pass play
  • Dan Carpenter hits upright (39-yard attempt)
  • Groves gives up edge on lengthy Zach Zenner run
  • Brooks blows up a WR screen
  • Cyrus Kouandjio (LT) false starts turns 3rd & 9 into 3rd & 14
  • Simms makes one of the most boneheaded plays in NFL QB history
  • Another five-plus-yard run right at Groves
  • Excellent read by Butler on quick hitch to WR for loss
  • IK Enemkpali offside negates fourth-down stop in red zone
  • Another Enemkpali offside negates third down stop

And with that, the preseason is over. Next up: roster cuts, which need to be made by 4:00 p.m. ET on Saturday. Until then, what did you think of the Bills overall this preseason?
