The Buffalo Bills, like every other team in the NFL, have to remove 22 players from their active roster by 4:00 p.m. ET tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon, trimming down to the 53 players that will be available for their Week 1 game against the Indianapolis Colts.
While they still have work to do, the Bills announced 17 cuts on Friday afternoon, 16 of which were straight releases, and the last was an injury waiver for a notable name:
- QB Matt Simms
- RB Cierre Wood
- RB Bronson Hill
- FB John Conner
- WR Deonte Thompson (waived/injured)
- WR Andre Davis
- WR Dezmin Lewis
- WR Tobais Palmer
- OL Cyril Richardson
- OL Alex Kupper
- OL Darryl Johnson
- OL William Campbell
- DL Andre Fluellen
- ER IK Enemkpali
- ER Quentin Groves
- ER B.J. Larsen
- CB Merrill Noel
Buffalo also placed cornerback Leodis McKelvin on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list, meaning that he will miss at least the first six weeks of the regular season.
There are not any huge surprises on this list, though a few of the names are certainly notable. Chief among those is Richardson, the second-year guard who evidently became expendable after the Bills claimed center Dalton Freeman on waivers earlier this week.
18 roster moves in, the Bills' active roster is now down to 57 names, meaning that they still have four more players to move off of it. One of those will be putting Marcell Dareus on the Reserve/Suspended list for Week 1, leaving three more players to be cut (or traded). Stay tuned!
