Doug Whaley not on the hot seat, per report

Last week, reports said that Bills GM Doug Whaley was on the hot seat. This week, per many of those same reporters, Whaley might end up with a contract extension.

Over the last week, Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley and head coach Rex Ryan have been on the hot seat. After 16 years without a playoff berth, fan impatience makes sense. But fast forward a week and the latest report says the exact opposite of those reports from last week, at least according to Ian Rapoport from NFL.com.

Last Sunday, CBS Sports ran a piece by Jason La Canfora saying there was turmoil inside the walls of One Bills Drive. Vic Carucci from The Buffalo News added to that this week, saying former general manager Bill Polian was interested in returning in an advisory role which would mean Doug Whaley would lose power or even his job.

It seems someone in or around the organization has an ax to grind with Whaley and is content to use the media - both local and national - to sharpen that blade. Hopefully the Pegulas won't let that interfere with their thought process on their general manager and at least one other Bills legend has a thought on Whaley to share:
